The concept of social networking is used in many ways today. Some consider it as total fun while others consider them precious to get into some serious relationships. Social networking is actively used for business promotion too. Whatever the use may be, Social networking websites have become a must have for every grown up human being.

The Social Networking Concept

There are thousands of Social Networking websites that are available today. However, not all of them serve the same purpose. Some of those websites are dedicated to business networking and some others entirely for school and college buddies to stay in touch. Though social networking websites differ in their mode of usage, all of them have the same concept – “active communication”. Let it be a social networking website for dating, or a social network of professional businessmen, all these websites enable people to find more contacts and also to re-kindle old relationships.

The ease of use

Almost all the social networking websites follow the same procedures. After making a free registration, you will be able to put up your own social networking profile. The profile page is the one that makes the first impression. The profile page must be the best and unique to make it highlight in the social media crowd. Social networking websites like myspace enable the users to use custom designed profile pages. There are many professional social networking web designers who can create stunning profile pages for myspace. You can also get professional help from them for setting up unique profiles.

Once the profile page is setup, it’s time to gather friends. Getting friends in a social networking website is real fun and easy. You can search for new friends wherever you wish and also connect to your old friends and rekindle the relationships. Businessmen can find more people of the same interest and share ideas and thoughts. The social networking websites are the excellent platforms for business promotion.

Creating your own social networking websites

With the increasing popularity of social networking, many professional web designers are now designing social networking websites for personal and business purposes. You can create professional social networking websites like myspace and facebook with the help of these social networking web designers. As the saying goes, “Make new friends and keep the old”, creating your own social networking website will make it easy to find your old friends. In general, social networking sites are a great way to meet new people, make friends, and connect with people from your past. You can build relationships, build a reputation, or build a business with these social networking websites.

If you are not into the world of Social Networking yet, you are missing a great part of your joyful life and successful business promotion.

It’s certainly not difficult to understand why social media and social networking websites have exploded in popularity in recent years. They capitalize on the intrinsic human need to interact with and gain feedback from other people. Blogs, message boards and other online communities allow us to share ideas with people all over the world in real time and offer almost all the dynamics of human interaction. Millions of people have created profiles on social networking sites and uploaded images and film clips on social media sites. As more people gain broadband access to the internet, this trend is expected to continue with no end in sight. How do these sites create opportunities for people to find work? Here are but a few ways they accomplish this:

?Connections, Connections, Connections – Whether you’re looking for an entry-level job right out of college or a position in top management, the importance of having a connection to help you get noticed (and get an interview) cannot be overstated. Many people belong to several online networking communities, and making it known that you’re looking for a new job allows you to tap into your extended network as well as the networks of others.

?Niche-Oriented Job Sites and Communities – More and more job and message boards are appearing online that cater to a very narrow range of interests which enables job seekers to bypass huge, sprawling sites such as http://Monster.com where their résumés might be overlooked. For example, if you have very specialized skills like underwater welding or forensic accounting, chances are very good that there are job boards online where you can get noticed that cater to these fields.

?Recruiters and Web-Savvy HR Directors Use Them Too! – Here’s a very telling statistic on the relevance of social networking for job seekers: According to a 2006 study conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management, recruiters use social networking sites 23 percent more than they did in 2006 to verify resumes, screen applicants and fill vacancies.

?Reputation Management – Social media sites can be a boon or a bane. Since recruiters and HR directors are surfing social networking sites to gather information on prospective hires, job seekers need to be extra wary of unflattering images and information on their pages that could affect their chances of getting hired. Pictures of them engaging in illegal activity or posts they have made that denigrate former employers could come back to haunt them.

The Internet has significantly changed how people look for work and how prospective employers find qualified talent. Harnessing the power of social networking sites has become almost imperative for job hunters, but they need to be careful about how they might be perceived. Just like the community where you live, your connections will play a huge part in the speed and ease with which you can find a new position. However, just like an interview, you’ll need to take extra care what kind of image you’re projecting online.

Social media websites have taken over the World Wide Web. Anyone spending time on the internet is signed into one of these sites at least, and more likely signed into several.

To name but a selective few of these social media and social bookmarking sites, there are: Facebook, Myspace, Furl, Del.icio.us, Digg, Reddit, Twitter, Stumbleupon, Rojo, Meetup, Linkedin, Technorati, Slashdot, and more.

With literally millions of users situated all over the world on these social media websites, companies can now use these websites as advertising mediums, targeting millions of people 24/7. This kind of advertising is extremely effective in targeting your specific market as there are such a large number of people to expose your brand to. The best thing about exposing your brand in this medium is that if people like it, your brand’s popularity can spread faster than the flu bug: think of it as viral marketing on red bull. In fact, you can be the talk of the web in just one day: thanks to extremely powerful advertising.

The reason for this quick spread via web circulation is that the online community is user driven of course, but because of this user driven force behind your brand, it can also get the boot from the online community and can have the complete opposite effect on a brand, not exactly what a company needs, and bad publicity can spread even faster than the flu, which is never a good thing.

The best way for companies to keep track of their brand’s reputation is through Online Reputation Management (ORM). Online Reputation Management combines marketing and public relations with search engine marketing.

There are three basic steps involved in implementing Online Reputation Management, which will be discussed hereafter. These steps are: Monitor, Analyze and Influence.

Monitor: You need to know what is being said about your brand. You might think that perceptions are impossible to track and monitor as news travels at such an incredible speed over the internet, thanks to blogs, forums and podcast – but there are internet monitoring services that you can use to solve this problem. An example of such a monitoring system is to set up Google Alerts to observe what is being said about your brand in the news on the web. You can also use sites such as Feedster and Technorati to monitor what is being said about your brand in blogs. You can also keep track of your direct competitors in this way.

Analyse: now that you’ve monitored the required information, you need to analyze it. To keep track of your search engine environment, you need to know your competition in depth. For example, make a list of the sites that have information concerning your brand. Split this list into positive and negative feedback, as it is good to know where the bad and good publicity is coming from. Also check their page rank, number of links, and any other aspects you can find.

Influence: One simple and effective method with which to influence your brand in a positive way is to participate by getting involved in the conversation. The old saying goes, if you can’t beat them, join them. So do exactly that: become a regular contributor to blogs and forums where you found most activity involving your brand. The golden rule when doing this is to stay honest about your brand. If for example, someone in the blogosphere said an inaccurate statement about your brand, you are able to clarify it by giving them evidence that supports your case and in so doing removing the error concerning your brand.

So, start implementing your ORM guns to counter attack your brand’s reputation. In this way you’ll prevent an ugly showdown from dragging down your brand.

Social media websites have soared in popularity over the past couple of years. And what was once a fresh trend has now become a powerful online marketing mechanism. The massive increase in the population of social networking websites and others constituting the social media proves the fact that there has been a tremendous shift from traditional modes of communication. And with more and more people hounding the World Wide Web, it promises to be large niche audience base. In such a scenario having a mere online presence is not enough. Rather, you should be floating the popularity charts of the internet to put it to good use for your business.

And what better way to climb up the popularity charts that reining the social media. With the extent and reach of social media, it can prove to be an instant networking tool for you if used appropriately. You can actually harness a portion of their web traffic and direct it to your website.

Here are some ways to use it to your advantage and increase your visitor count.

Get Listed on Social Networking Websites
Be it LinkedIn, Facebook, StumbleUpon, Digg or anything else, make sure you have established your presence there. Once you browse through these website you would know how to use them for your benefit. You can then strategize your marketing efforts and advertising campaigns to promote you business online. Because these website have a large audience base and encourage open discussion, you can be in direct contact with your target market and put your campaigns into direct use.

Create a Blog
Blog are the best options for free dialogue and to present your opinions and views in a casual tone. Though you may have explained at length about your company and business and your experience in the industry on your website, blogs allow you to say more. It can be an excellent medium to illustrate your expertise and knowledge in your particular work field.

You can feature your products and services, ask for customer feedback and discuss ideas and news with other internet users… and all at a very personal level. You can actually personalize the image of your company website. This will encourage your customers and audiences to interact with you… something that’s not very inviting with the ‘contact us’ page of the main website.

Just make regular posts on your blog and make sure that the content is high on quality. Your blog posts should be informative and relevant to the audiences for them to make it popular on websites like Digg, Delicious, StumbleUpon etc. also, do not forget to promote your blog well lest it remains un-findable in the dark hollows of the internet.

Participate In Online Forums Discussions and Communities
Another hot spot of internet users is forums and discussion communities. Making your presence felt there can contribute a good deal in driving traffic towards your website. Find forums that are related to your business and industry and participate actively in the discussions there. It is a great medium to exhibit your expert word on particular issues concerning you.

In a Web 2.0 world, advertising exists in an interactive environment characterized by user control, freedom, and dialogue. In this context, advertising means inviting the consumption of branded experience, ideas, and knowledge, engaging consumers, and inspiring interaction. It is no longer appropriate to serve up advertising as an interruption in the lives of consumers but, rather, to position brands as contributing members of vibrant, social communities.

Social brands contribute to communities by developing opportunities for interactivity, emphasizing the brand’s relevance to individual members and the community at large, monitoring branded community assets (like profiles in social networks and facilities in virtual worlds) for needed maintenance, responding to feedback, providing new content over time, and always finding ways to show the community that the brand values the relationship. No matter the range of social-media outlets used in a social campaign, whether social news and bookmarking sites, virtual worlds, social networks, or blogs and wikis, brands must remember the community exists for the sake of community-not for the sake of branding.

People do not join a community to interact with a brand. They join to be a part of something. They join to make friends, share stories, have fun, publish creative work, have a voice, and to take part in the relational activities that make life interesting and enjoyable. They join for social support and to feel the comfort of contact. They join to get to know others and to let others know them. For a brand to succeed in a social community, the brand must be part of the community.

How can brands benefit from the social context of online communities? For brands to benefit from this phenomenon, they must invite consumer participation and encourage consumers to engage. Brand democratization is the invitation to consumers to participate in creating and then experiencing a brand’s meaning, particularly within a social context. What happens when brands develop a reputation for embracing a social culture characterized by an appreciation for authenticity, transparency, participation, infectiousness, and advocacy? What happens when brands enter online social communities — social networks, virtual worlds, social news sites, community review sites, and communities of gamers — as contributing members, as sponsors, and as friends? Consumers embrace roles. They become content creators, storytellers, advocates, and communication vehicles. They seek out opportunities to immerse themselves in imaginary worlds, social fiction, and games, which are fortified, sponsored, and enhanced by brands. This is the promise of advertising in social media.

ROI for networking – a perspective

If you’ve ever placed an ad in any magazine or newspaper, what do the magazine or newspapers promise? Do they promise “x” leads and “y” calls leading to “z” number of clients? Or do they talk about “a 2 million circulation” which means that the ad will be viewed by many but there are no guarantees of new business?

Also, when you answer the phone, respond to emails, make cold calls, and attend networking events, how do you measure your ROI?

Or how many events have you attended where you’ve passed out 50 business cards, come back to the office with 100 business cards, sent out 10 follow-up emails and heard back from ZERO?

So you spent $25 to attend the event, $5 in gas money, 3 hours of your time that is worth say $150, and in the end what did you get? A bunch of business cards and a few people writing or calling to sell their services to you! So did you sit down and measure the ROI for that? I think not.

And how many events can you attend in a given day? What reach can you have, meaning how many people can you reach out to at any given event? And how do you build a relationship with someone in brief encounters where everyone is hurrying to meet one more person before the event is over?

You get my point?

The SMM ROI

By participating in Social Media Marketing (SMM), what we are doing is leveraging conversations and discussions to begin building relationships. Building relationships and networking online takes time and therefore it requires time and investment. Since you have a business to run, you can do this by retaining professionals like us (had to get a plug in).

And so to summarize, I leave you with this thought.

The evolution of online marketing and especially social media marketing requires a paradigm shift in how businesses view ROI. Social Media Marketing allows us to form relationships. These relationships may eventually lead to business.

But ROI for Social Media Marketing doesn’t apply nor does it make sense because how can we measuring ROI of human interactions?

Nowadays all legitimate home based businesses have to consider the huge potential of social media to get their message across to potential customers. How effective you become at using this great resource will determine if your own enterprise will become one of the best home based businesses around, and develop a great ongoing income for you and your family

If you are not familiar with social media let me give you a few ideas of what it includes.

1. Blogging with a platform like WordPress or Blogger

2. Videos such as You Tube

3. Audio including podcasting

4. Micro-blogging like Twitter.com

5. Social directories such as Digg or Stumbleupon

6. Social networking with MySpace, Facebook and others.

7. And much more….

We are all getting used to these various forms of socially active media, and consider them to be a legitimate part of Internet marketing today. Therefore it only makes sense that any legitimate home-based business would include many of these forms of marketing their products online too.

This is especially true when it comes to blogging, because you can incorporate many of the other forms of social media into it. For example, it is very common to go to a blog today and be presented with an opportunity to watch a short video.

Most people today have got used to the availability of television at all hours of the day and night. When you go online, watching a video is a normal way to do that.

Many of the best home based businesses are now using video technology. This gives you the chance to include the name of your own website within the video picture itself. This is one way that you can market with videos, without having to learn how to create one of your own.

The idea of networking socially is actually centuries old, but the internet has really had a dramatic effect on how it is applied today. A very large number of people now have set up a profile of their own on social networking sites such as Facebook or MySpace .

You can now meet other people with interest in similar areas as you, and start to interact with them. It also gives you a great chance to build relationships with people which you can recruit into your business opportunity, or sell products to.

One of the great developments on the Internet lately has been the appearance of Twitter. We call it micro-blogging because you are allowed to post updates about yourself and your business in short little bursts.

When you add something you wish to discuss this will enable others who are your friends to know about it, and give them a chance to interact with you.

These are just a few ideas on why legitimate home based businesses now include social media. If you are not already doing so, you will be including some, or even all of these, into your own marketing mix eventually.

In today’s world of advanced technology, each technique is constantly evolving on a very fast pace. To keep pace with all these changes one needs to study and learn about everything new that is happening in any field. Search engine optimization or online promotion of websites is among one of the very rapidly changing fields in the internet. Keeping track of these new developments will help an online business to earn profit.

Social media optimization is a new term that has come about in the field of search engine optimization as a result of these changes. The term may sound to be very intimidating, but in fact it is nothing but promoting of online sites in such a manner that is becomes easily and more accessible in social networking sites. Such sites are very popular among online visitors these days and so one has more chances of reaching out to more people.

Research studies have indicated that more then sixty percent of people, who are active on the web, have made their profile on some or the other social networking sites. More and more people are increasingly opening up to the idea of creating a profile on the web to meet people having similar tastes and interests. And this is where social media optimization tries to cash in and popularize a site on the World Wide Web.

There are so many sites on the web and so you will have to give visitors a very strong reason to visit your site. All websites look and appear similar and unless they find something unique and new, visitors will not want to waste their time visiting just another site. The idea is to draw as much traffic as possible to your site and help you earn profit through your business.

Writing great content in the form of blogs can soar the popularity of your site on the web. Make efforts to help your content travel really fast on the web. Once you become a regular blogger, you can place a link of your site at the bottom of your blog and this can bring huge number of visitors to your site. Also you can let other sites use your content if they provide a link to your site. This will serve your two purposes; first your content travels fast and secondly your get visitors for your site.

Before you undertake Social media optimization, you must find out certain things that will be helpful for you. First study and analyze the existing competition in the market. This is where your competitors are operating and you must know everything about this market inside out.

Implementing any new technique such as social media optimization can work wonders for your business. Undoubtedly this is a new concept and initially you may feel hesitant about it, but gradually you will realize that this is the best thing that you could have done for the growth of your business. Only after you have implemented all the methods of social media optimization, you will realize how beneficial this has been for your success.

The earning potential in social marketing is something you shouldn’t ignore. If you’re thinking the market is too oversaturated for you to get a piece of the pie, you couldn’t be more wrong!

Those looking to market online to make money can expect to see a lot of ways that promise to help them turn their online efforts into cash. For instance, social marketing sites which are what Web 2.0 is all about…

Make Money With Social Marketing

Can you really make money by socializing online through pay per post and paid forums, etc? With many of the new social media platforms you can in both direct ways and in indirect ways as well. Sites like FaceBook and MySpace are hard to beat. Those new sites who want a piece of the population of people who spend a vast portion of their spare time online are incentivizing their sites so that people will want to join and use their site too.

Maximizing Profit Potential For Web 2.0

How much time you spend on a site and how much value you bring to it will ultimately determine how much money you can make. How-to sites are particularly interested in having you share advice on how to do something and may be willing to share their ad revenue with you. Because so many people now search the web for information on how to do things, sites that provide that information can have huge income potential. Some people make a monthly income with sites like these by spending time every day on that site. At the same time, a lot of people invest time and effort into a social marketing site and don’t make a dime.

The thing is, you need to learn how to maximize the site’s potential with minimum effort and if you learn how to make money indirectly from these sites as well as directly through ad revenue, you can laugh your way to the bank.

Those with a large online circle of friends can use their wit and charm and guru status to make online sales through those friends as well as get paid as a contributor to that site where revenue programs exist. Micro blogging sites can have imbedded urls to tell people about the great product you’ve heard about. Free blog networks can help you build your search engine optimization up for your money making blog as well. There are many ways to exploit social media to your advantage.

Here are a few tips to help you:

- Don’t spam. Build a circle of online friends by being social and being helpful. People will see through a blatant spam attempt

- Visit sites often but don’t let them become productivity vacuums either. Allocate a set amount of time per day to play on social media sites.

- If a site isn’t proving to be worthwhile very soon, put your efforts elsewhere. While it can take time to build a following, you might want to shift your efforts elsewhere if you’re spending a lot of hours and not getting any good results at all.

Milk social media for all its worth as it can help you make great money while also having fun.

Social media networks are shaping a new era in the online community. The number of visitors and subscribers are increasing tremendously as we speak. A perfect example of the success of the social networks was Facebook’s increase in the number of visits by 50% during the last year.

The reason behind the success of these websites is due to the human touch they add to the digital world . Everybody is looking for old buddies from school , a friend they haven’t seen for a while or even get to know new people in their same profession or share the same passion .

Many charities and fundraisers have realized the unbeatable effect of social media as compared to any other online or offline marketing tool. Many have started to build their own websites and started to build social presence in the major social sites , build groups , post articles and become active members in these sites.

“Too poor to donate? Digg to help sick kids! Let’s raise Awareness!” http://digg.com/odd_stuff/Too_poor_to_donate_Digg_to_help_sick_kids_Let_s_raise_Awareness caught my attention while I was using digg.com a social media site . This charity project used digg to promote their Christmas campaign for gift donations for sick children. They were asking for the visitor help to digg their post to reach as many people as they can and a generous contribution will be appreciated .

On Facebook you can easily find hundreds of charities building their groups to raise awareness of the visitors and invite them to contribute. These groups are at finger tips away from you , All what you need to do is search the groups for charity or fundraising and then the decision is up to you.

Social websites were also built with the sole intention of funding charities and raising the awareness of online visitors of the importance of the social contribution to the success of any charity project. Squidoo is a social network that came to existence with thoughtful understanding of the commitment of any business to their community while maintaining the limit of profits to maintain their on going activities. They provide a mutual interest for the visitors and the charity projects. Squidoo enables anyone to build a page on a subject that they have passion about ,write as many pages as they like, then Squidoo uses advertising on these pages. The revenue is these advertisements is shared between the page creator and a charity project. They also offer the choice of donating all your income to the charity you choose from a list of charities that they sponsor.

Donations are the back bone of any charity and fundraising which originate from the social contribution to the mission and the work of the volunteers dedicating their time and effort to its success. No doubt that social media networks made it easier for them to reach people at the ease of their homes. They can easily add a smile on a sleepy face feeling that they did their dues to the society.
